Hunter Safety Education- February 2-9, 2012
Mary McQuillen, KY FIsh & Wildlife Hunter Training Officer, will conduct a Hunter Safety Education Training from 6:00- 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 2nd and Friday, February 3rd and from 9:00 a.m.- 12 noon on Saturday, February 4th at the Hardin County Extension Office. Those attending and passing the exam will receive their "orange card" certification for the safe handling of firearms. Youth must be 9 years of age to take the exam and have until they reach their 12th birthday to complete training and pass the test.
A temporary hunter permis is also available which allows a person to hunt for one year without first completing a hunter education course. The permis is available on the Ky Department of Fish and Wildlife website for a $5 fee and is for both KY residents and nonresidents. This is a "one time only" permit and once it expires you must complete the hunter education training and pass the exam to purchase a regular hunting license.

2011 4-H Variety Show
Can you play a musical instrument, dance or lip synch to your favorite song? Or maybe YOUR CLUB would like to PERFORM a SKIT! If so, then you need to make plans to be part of the 2011 4-H VARIETY SHOW scheduled for Saturday, February 18th, at East Hardin Middle School. Check-in starts at 10:00 a.m. and will be followed by the Show at 11:00 a.m.,

SPECIALTY ACTS are made up of the following categories: INSTRUMENTAL (piano or musical instrument); VOCAL (singing to background music of your favorite song); PHYSICAL SKILLS (dancing, drill team or gymnastics) and THEATRICAL lip synch or comedy). All Specialty Acts will have a 4-minute time limit with 1-4 youth per act. Youth participating in more than (2) specialty acts must be in different categories. Any Act exceeding the time limit will not be considered for the Champion Award. CLUB ACTS will have a 15-minute time limit including setup, performance and tear down. 4-Her’s may participate in no more than (1) club act with at least 5 or more club members participating. Club acts with (1) or more senior 4-H members will be considered a Sr. Club Act. Acts longer than 15 minutes & 20 seconds will not be considered for the Champion Award. In both specialty and club acts, only one person may accompany the 4-Her (such as a pianist) and ALL ACTS SHOULD BE IN GOOD TASTE keeping with local values. Awards will be given in both junior and senior divisions. Champion winners will have a chance to perform at the KY State Fair in August. There will not be an area/district variety show.
NEW “ALUMNI” CATEGORY – This is a challenge to all 4-H alumni to join in on the FUN and recreate your favorite variety show performance or present a new one. You may choose to perform a club act or specialty act as outlined above. Special awards will be presented.
NOW is the time to begin PLANNING and PRACTICING for the 4-H Variety Show. If you or your club are interested YOU MUST REGISTER BY CALLING (270) 765-4121 NO LATER THAN Friday, February 10th and give us the TITLE and CATEGORY OF YOUR ACT along with your NAME and AGE. DON’T FORGET to also submit NAME and AGE of all club members participating in Club Acts.
