Grain
Hardin County’s grain crops offer much diversity. Although corn and soybeans occupy most of the county’s grain crop acres; many other grain crops are grown here as well. These include soft red winter wheat, barley, spring oats, grain sorghum (milo) and canola is again being raised on county farms. The county ranks 10th in soybean production in Kentucky, 19th in corn and 21st in wheat.
The Hardin County Extension Grain Committee has for many years conducted corn and soybean variety trials on county farms in an effort to generate local data on which varieties perform the best on county soils and under our weather conditions. One of the University of Kentucky’s Small Grain Variety Trial Test Sites is currently located on the C&J Stuecker Farm.
