Become a Kentucky Master Gardener...Do You Have What It Takes?
The 2010 class of Kentucky Master Gardeners Training Program is scheduled to begin on September 9, 2010 . This program is part of the Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service and is designed to expand the horticultural knowledge among the community through the use of trained volunteers.
The Cooperative Extension Service is committed to education. To accomplish this, those adopting the Master Gardener Philosophy must be willing to accept the challenge of going through a rigorous training including reading, quizzes, a final exam and then, a 40-hour internship.
An excellent curriculum has been developed that includes a wide variety of subjects including botany, Plant Pathology (diseases), Entomology (insects), and Soil Science, plus Turf, Trees, Flowers and Fruit, just to name a few. Instruction will be provided through classroom lectures, labs, and hands-on demonstrations by University of Kentucky Specialists, Horticulture Agents, and resource people from the community. A Kentucky Master Gardener Handbook and other resources will be provided to each participant.
Your decision to enroll in the program should be based on a commitment to help others in horticulture. You are asked to participate in a 40-hour internship program where you can put what you learned to practical use. Your internship is self-determined. If you have a passion for working with children, we can direct you to the 4-H program. Like to design? Use your internship to do some plantings for the Extension Office. Like to talk on the phone? We have a horticulture hotline where you can answer questions from the public.
A fee of $100.00 will be charged to cover the cost of resource materials. If you would like to participate, please contact me to receive the application materials. You may contact me by phone (765-4121), or come by our office at 201 Peterson Drive, Elizabethtown. Enrollment is limited. Registration ends August 1, 2010.
If you have questions or require more information on any horticultural matter, please contact me. It would be my pleasure to assist you.
I am looking forward to working with another exciting group of Master Gardeners.
Educational programs of the Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service serve all people regardless of race, color, age, gender, religion, disability, or national origin.
